Algumas noticias que sairam essa semana e semana pasada:

Citação :
Bucs CB Brian Kelly formally opted out of his contract Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Kelly passed up a $3.2 million salary and paid the Bucs $453,000 to exercise the option. He clearly wanted out after losing his job to Phillip Buchanon. This makes cornerback a far greater need for Tampa Bay this offseason.

Citação :
The Buccaneers are expected to target Falcons castoffs Alge Crumpler and Rod Coleman once they officially hit the waiver wire.

Neither has cleared waivers yet. The Bucs are $30 million under the salary cap, and could upgrade at tight end over Alex Smith. Coleman would play the three technique, likely replacing incumbent starting DT Jovan Haye.

Citação :
Bucs re-signed WR Paris Warren to a one-year, $510,000 contract.

Warren, who's recovering from a broken leg, nearly earned a roster spot last preseason before getting hurt. The Bucs figure to address wide receiver in the draft and/or free agency, so he isn't a good bet to make the club.

Citação :
The player rep for free agent DT Rod Coleman expects to begin contract talks with the Bucs on Tuesday.

If healthy, Coleman is a perfect fit for the Bucs, whose scheme relies on a four-man pass rush. Coleman would be well worth the risk at the right price.

Citação :
Bucs FS Tanard Jackson underwent surgery on his MCL after last season.

He was hurt in the playoff loss to the Giants. It was just a scope, and Jackson should be fine by OTAs. The rangy former college corner had an All-Rookie caliber first year, with two picks, two fumble recoveries, and 13 breakups.

Citação :
Bucs LB Cato June (foot surgery) is expected to be healthy for the team's offseason conditioning program.

It appears June's fractured foot wasn't severe. June made only 69 tackles, a three year low, in his first season on the strong side. However, he was effective covering tight ends and a key to the Bucs' top ranked pass defense.

The Bucs will show interest in impending free agent DE Justin Smith, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

The Bucs have the money to spend, but it's unclear where Smith would fit in Tampa Bay. He's not the heavy pressure player the Bucs usually look for.

Bucs TE Jerramy Stevens, C John Wade, and CB Sammy Davis are all expected to hit the free agent market in February 29.

Tampa is looking to upgrade from Stevens by pursuing Alge Crumpler. Dan Buenning could step in at center for Wade. Davis may fall out of the league.

Bucs talk trade with Broncos for Walker
The Bucs have had discussions with the Denver Broncos about trading for receiver Javon Walker.

The Broncos have made no secret of their desire to part ways with Walker, who is owed an option bonus of $5.4-million March 4. Walker said at the end of the of the season that he wanted to find a 'better fit,' elsewhere.

Walker, 29, was hampered by a knee injury last season and played in just eight games, catching 26 passes for 287 yards and no touchdowns. But he has had 1,000-yard receiving seasons with the Broncos in 2006 and the Packers in '04.

The Bucs are looking to upgrade the receiver position. Joey Galloway will be 37 next season, Ike Hilliard will be 32 while Michael Clayton and Maurice Stovall had struggled to make a consistent impact.

Walker would give the Bucs a big target at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds that can work the middle of the field and make yards after the catch.

On Thursday during a break at the NFL scouting combine, general manager Bruce Allen would neither confirm nor deny the Bucs had talks with the Broncos about Walker.

""I couldn't say that,'' Allen said. ""I couldn't say one way or another.

""I'll neither confirm nor deny.''

Walker isn't the only player on the Bucs radar. Allen said the team is pursuing Falcons defensive tackle Rod Coleman and tight end Alge Crumpler. One or both players could visit the Bucs training facility sometime next week.

Allen met with Coleman's agent, Pat Dye, Jr., on Wednesday and will have talks with Crumpler's agent this weekend.

Allen predicted that Coleman could have a new team before the start of the free agent signing period Feb. 29.

Coleman, who has 58.5 career sacks, was plagued by an assortment of injuries last season and played in just five games before finishing the year on Injured Reserve.

But the Bucs are all too aware of how disruptive Coleman can be as a pass rusher and the Bucs are looking to put more pressure on the quarterback. Allen drafted Coleman with the Oakland Raiders in 1999.

""He's been quite a foe for us the last four years,'' Allen said. ""You've been to the games, you've noticed No. 75. We have talked to him. (His agent) is working out Rod's schedule where to do visits and physicals. We've just got to see where his health is and when Pat decides when to get serious.

""He's played very well against us. He has rushed our players...he is a good competitor. That's why he has a lot of interest and that's why we haven't heard when he's scheduled to visit yet.''

Crumpler has more than 4,000 career receiving yards and 35 touchdowns. Allen said he likes his ability to make plays down the field but said he also is a good blocker.

""I'll meet with them. (His agent) is coming here to meet with different teams and I should meet with him tomorrow.

""He's a very good weapon and he's made (four) Pro Bowls. Amazingly productive and a good all-around tight end. Not limited to one aspect.''

Bucs Ready To Deal For Javon Walker?

TAMPA - The first day of testing at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis provided at least one rumor involving the Bucs.

In an effort to solve their need for another impact wide receiver, the Bucs are believed to be talking to the Denver Broncos about a deal that would land them disgruntled wideout Javon Walker.

No one associated with either team or Walker would confirm the reports, but that doesn't mean a deal isn't in the works.

The Bucs are on the lookout this offseason for playmakers, and Walker is looking to get away from the Broncos, for whom he played in just eight games last year, catching 26 passes for 287 yards and no touchdowns.

One thing that could scuttle such a deal is the Bucs' inability to give the Broncos what they want in return.

The Bucs could offer draft picks for Walker, who is 29 and spent most of last year nursing a knee problem, but the Broncos are believed to be looking for an impact defensive tackle.

Though Jovan Haye gave them the best play they have had at that position in years, the Bucs are in the market for a defensive tackle themselves.

They have had brief discussions with the agent for Rod Coleman, and the Bucs could take a run at signing Justin Smith should he be let go by the Bengals.

The Bucs have also had brief discussions with the agent for tight end Alge Crumpler who, along with Coleman, was released by the Falcons last Friday.

The Buccaneers are reportedly targeting free agent DeShaun Foster.
"We've had talks with his representative, yes," GM Bruce Allen confirmed Saturday. The Bucs are always active, but this indicates they won't be content with just Earnest Graham as their lead back. Foster isn't great, but makes a better backup than Michael Bennett or Kenneth Darby. The club will meet with him early next week

Coleman To Visit Bucs This Week

Defensive tackle Rod Coleman has been on Tampa Bay's radar ever since he was released by the Atlanta Falcons last week, and now it looks like he will make a trip to Tampa to meet with the Buccaneers.

Coleman should visit One Buccaneer Place later this week, Coleman's agent Pat Dye told PewterReport.com on Monday. Exactly how soon Coleman visits Tampa Bay this week likely will be determined by how much progress Dye and the Bucs make in contract negotiations.

The Buccaneers are looking to improve their pass rush, which generated just 33 sacks in 2007. Although he's 31, Coleman is a player that could do that. He has notched 58.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in 109 career games.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Coleman recorded 31 of his career sacks over the last four seasons in Atlanta. However, Coleman suffered through an injury-plagued season in 2007, notching just two sacks in five games before finishing the season on injured reserve.

Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen are quite familiar with Coleman, whom they drafted in Oakland in 1999.

Coleman is a player the Bucs could work in to the rotation at the under tackle position with Jovan Haye, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent.

The Bucs are also interested in signing former Atlanta tight end Alge Crumpler, who was released with Coleman and five other Falcons players last week. However, it is not yet known whether Crumpler has set up a visit with the Bucs.

Tampa Bay will be approximately $35 million under the salary cap when free agency begins on Friday.

Asante Wants To Join Tampa

Tampa Bay might be courting several free agents, but Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel is ready to entice the Bucs.

Samuel is slated to become an unrestricted free agent later this week and Tampa Bay is on the short list of teams he is interested in playing for.

“That [Tampa Bay] is a situation that makes sense,” said Alonzo Shavers, Samuel’s agent. “Tampa Bay is definitely worth considering. It was an organization that was in the Super Bowl not too long ago. It is an organization Asante wants to play for. It’s definitely something that makes perfect sense for everybody.”

Shavers said he has not spoken with Tampa Bay yet, but expects to speak with the Bucs after Samuel officially becomes a free agent on February 29.

Tampa Bay might listen to Shavers’ pitch, especially considering it is about to lose cornerback Brian Kelly to free agency. The longtime starting left corner recently paid $453,000 to come a free agent, leaving Tampa Bay thin at that position.

Samuel, 27, would be an instant upgrade for one of the top secondary’s in the NFL.

Since entering the NFL five years ago, Samuel (5-foot-10 and 185 pounds) has emerged into one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, evident by his Pro Bowl appearance. Samuel, who has two Super Bowl rings, started 53 of 75 career regular-season games and notched 232 tackles (208 solo), 22 interceptions for 224 yards and three touchdowns.

The biggest number that could hinder Samuel from becoming a Buccaneer is the nearly $8 million salary he earned last season with New England.

Tampa Bay is $30 million under the salary cap, but the Bucs typically do not spend large amounts of money on free agents. Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber was the second highest paid player on the roster at $6 million (rookie Gaines Adams earned $15 million), and Samuel would likely want a contract to match or exceed what he was paid last season.

However, Shavers is optimistic an agreement can be made.

“We’re not having a large pool of teams to chose from,” Shavers said. “Not everybody will need him or want to pay that kind of money. It’s going to be a select group and Tampa Bay is high on our short list.”

Bucs Believed To Be Targeting Saints C Faine

TAMPA – Don’t be surprised if Saints free-agent center Jeff Faine is one of the first players to join the Bucs after the free-agency signing period begins.

The Bucs are expected to let aging starter John Wade hit the market and the ability to sign Faine is probably one reason they’re letting Wade go.

The Saints have been trying to re-sign Faine but it appears it will take a last minute change of heart to get that done.

That will open the door for the Bucs, who are believed to have the inside track on signing the former Sanford Seminole High and Notre Dame product.

The 6-3, 291-pound Faine is one of top three centers available in free agency this year and is ranked 71st overall on the Sporting News’s Super 99 list.

Scouts say he lacks versatility and a mean streak but they rave over his ability to diagnose defenses and make proper line calls.

He originally entered the league in 2003 as a 21st overall pick of the Cleveland Browns, but missed most of his rookie season with an ankle injury.

Another ankle injury cut short his 2004 season after 13 games and a biceps injury ended his 2005 season after 14 games.

He was eventually traded in 2006 to the Saints, for whom he started 16 games in 2006 and 14 games in 2007.
